*This is position is an exempt position within Westchester County Department of Civil Service and does not require the successful candidate to take a Civil Service examination.

The Deputy Town Attorney assists the Town Attorney in rendering counsel to the Town Supervisor, Town Council, and other Town Officials. Under the direction of the Town Attorney,
the incumbent carries out complex legal assignments in support of Town government and its departmental policies and procedures. This is a high-level professional position requiring
thorough working knowledge of the laws governing municipal agencies in the State of New York. Incumbents exercise high degree of independent judgment in the performance of duties.
However, the Town Attorney is usually consulted on major policy matter. The Deputy Town Attorney represents the Town in the courts in civil litigation; and does related work as required.

Job Group: Management Annual Salary: $125,000 – $135,000 DOE

Description/Examples of Work (Illustrative Only):
 Manage cases, which involve lawsuits against the Town relating to property damage, personal injury, wrongful arrests, premises liability, automobile liability, commercial,
general liability cases, arbitration, labor litigation matters including worker’s compensation, from inception through mediation and settlement.
 Draft legal pleadings, motions, affirmations, memorandums of law and other court documents, trial prep and appearing for court hearings/proceedings, 50-h Examinations,
depositions, site inspections and trials.
 Assist the Town Attorney in other areas, such as Foils, land use issues, tax certioraris, foreclosures, personnel contracts, and vehicle and traffic violations.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Attributes:
Working knowledge of NYS General Municipal Law; Town Law; Real Property Law; Insurance Law, General Obligations Law and CPLR; Laws relating to Premises liability; Construction
liability, Professional liability, Federal due process, and civil rights claims. (a) Admitted the New York State Bar Association and currently in good standing. Also admitted
to practice law in NY State Courts and U.S. District Court, Southern District of New York.

At least three (3) years of experience as an attorney, preferable representing a municipality.
