REPORTS TO: Director of Education
HOURS: Tuesday-Saturday 9am-5pm (Some Schedule change is required for, but not limited to: special
events, weekend coverage, and summer camps)
OVERARCHING RESPONSIBILITY: The Education Supervisor helps to oversee the day to day operations of
the department and works to inspire our participants to make a closer connection to nature through effective
education experiences.
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE (Other duties may be assigned as appropriate):
● Oversee day to day supervision of the department including but not limited to, making sure staff are
prepared and heading for programs on time, animal care is underway, and ensuring that staff are
staying productive
● Mentor new educators on program curriculum and operations of the department
● Develop new and exciting educational programs in coordination with Director of Education
● Lead guided nature walks and environment talks to educate the department
● Oversee the ordering and maintenance of seasonal educational equipment, including but not limited to,
apple cider presses, pond equipment, maple sugar supplies, and native american artifacts
● Maintain educational sites and trails for seasonal use and safety
● Work directly alongside the Manager of Living Collections to assist in the care and maintenance of our
living collections
● Develop and implement creative and enriching science-based environmental education programs for
school groups, camp groups, weekend programming and scout programs
● Conduct and assist with off-site (outreach) programs
● Ensure health maintenance and wellness of live animals and coordinate their care and involvement with
programming
● Coordinate systematic animal enrichment routines
● Administer medications and maintain animal records
● Take part in routine tasks of museum work
● Assist with the organization, cleaning and upkeep of the building
● Provide instructional services for birthday parties
● Participate in all special events
Basic Qualifications:
● Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, sustainability, education or related field
● Effective written and verbal communication skills
● Positive attitude and willingness to follow instructions
● Ability to take initiative in their duties
● Effective at time management
● Comfortable handling all types of animals including reptiles, mammals, invertebrates and birds (training
will be provided)
● Comfortable interacting with all ages
Desired Qualifications:
● 3-5 years of related work experience
● Classroom or informal education experience
● Knowledge of basic animal husbandry and information
Physical Requirements
● Frequently required to stand/walk for 3 or more hours
● Frequent exposure to outside weather conditions in all types of weather
● Valid Driver’s License required
This is a Full-time, salaried position at $40,000-$45,000 annually with benefits dependent upon
experience.
